LEEDS CHIEFS are delighted to announce their third roster signing for the 2020-21 NIHL National season with the addition of Kieran Brown.
The 19-year-old Bradford-born forward moves to Elland Road having spent the past three years with Elite League outfit Sheffield Steelers.
Last season saw Brown play most of his hockey for the Chiefs’ Yorkshire rivals, Sheffield Steeldogs, posting 34 points, including 10 goals, in just 19 games.
The first of those goals actually came against Leeds in the Chiefs’ first-ever game at Ice Sheffield last September when the visitors were edged out 3-1 by their hosts.
Now, though, Chiefs’ player-coach Sam Zajac is glad to have Brown on his side of the ice for the 2020-21 campaign and backs the teenager to have a massive impact once the action gets underway.
“Offensively, Kieran is pretty much the full package,” said Sam. “He’s probably one of, if not the best, player for his age in the country and is someone with massive potential.
“He’s coming in here with the bit between his teeth and looking to have a big year, and we’re confident that we can give him an environment in which he’s really going to thrive.
“It shows that we are an attractive destination for these top players and, similar to Sam Gospel who we’ve got back for another season in goal, Kieran is a go-to guy who we can build around.
“When the opportunity comes to sign somebody up of the calibre of Kieran, you take it with both hands.”
Kieran said he is excited about the potential at Leeds, armed with the knowledge about the kind of team his new coach is putting together.
“I can’t wait to play alongside some of the players that are going to be here next season,” said Kieran. “We want to be pushing hard, not just for the playoffs but pushing hard for that top three or four and with some of the players we’ve got, I’m confident we can do that.
“From when it was first announced that Leeds were going to be having a team, I wanted to play here.“Being part of the Chiefs gives me exactly the kind of new challenge I need. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Sam from everybody I’ve spoken to – just another reason for coming on board. I just can’t wait to get started.”
