Leeds Chiefs have to announce that their first four home games will have to be played out of alternative rinks.  The games affected are:

  • 3rd November –  Chiefs v Sheffield Steeldogs @ Planet Ice Blackburn
  • 10th November – Chiefs v Swindon Wildcats @ Planet Ice Widnes
  • 16th November – Chiefs v Sheffield Steeldogs @ Planet Ice Blackburn
  • 23rd November – Chiefs v Hull Pirates @ Planet Ice Blackburn.

Commenting on the news Simon McGuinness, General Manager of Planet Ice Leeds said;

“We are seeing developments on the rink site on a daily basis and the end is in sight. But for us to be able to launch the Leeds Chiefs Ice Hockey Team onto home ice on Elland Road we want to make sure that the arena is in the best condition for fans to really enjoy watching the exciting team and great match night experience”

“Everyone at The Chiefs organisation wants to thank the fans for their continued support” continued McGuinness.

The club understands the frustration of all who are counting down the days till the first game on home ice. The club, along with the help of the Supporters Club,  will explore the opportunity to arrange travel to these games so that supporters will be able to enjoy the fixtures.

Sam Zajac, Chiefs Player/Coach added;

“On behalf of myself & the rest of the boys, we want to thank all of our fans for their support on the first few games of the season. I, as much as anyone can’t wait for the first game on home ice.”

“We have been using the Blackburn facility to train for the past 6 weeks and am glad that we are able to use their arena as home for 3 of our November games and we are also looking forward to experiencing playing in Planet Ice Widnes. I hope that we will see a home side advantage from this and that you will all be able to make the trip to see us play, what I’m sure will be some intense and exciting hockey”.

An update on the “Home of the Chiefs” – Planet Ice Leeds, will be made over the coming days.
